After a three-year stint in the U.S. Army, he began preparing for the priesthood, earning a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and a master’s degree in theological studies. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1991. Since then his priestly ministry has included work with Latin-American and Portuguese communities both in the U.S. and Portugal, and parish work in Canada where he has been pastor of three parishes in the Archdiocese of Winnipeg.
