It was first held in 1975, especially to pray for peace in Portugal, but its emphasis has since broadened to include peace and justice worldwide. As with many things in 2020, the event will be slightly different this year: there will be no procession, and the Mass will be livestreamed. The Mass, and Rosary that precedes it, will include elements in Spanish, English, and Portuguese, and Brazilian Portuguese, an aspect of this celebration I particularly enjoy.<\/span><br>\n<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">A little history on the Mass for Peace, initially intended in 1975, as prayers to Our Lady of Fatima for peace in Portugal, now includes many troubled places in our world needing our prayers, such as Syria, Iraq, North Korea, and many other places. Given the events of 2020, there seems a no better time for a Mass for peace than now.&nbsp;<\/span><br>\n<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">If you would like to join Mass in the Cathedral on Columbus Day, October 12, 2020, reservations are required \u2014&nbsp;<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/annual-mass-for-peace-600-pm-tickets-120533738657\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">you can do that at this link<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. The Livestream will take place on the&nbsp;<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/fallriverdiocese\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Diocese of Fall River Facebook<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&nbsp;page, beginning with the Rosary at 5:30 pm, followed by the Mass at 6 pm.<\/span><br>\n&nbsp;<br>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Month of the Rosary<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fallriverdiocese.org\/bishops-blog-mass-for-peace-and-the-rosary\/mary-rosary\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-13092\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fallriverdiocese.org\/app\/uploads\/2020\/10\/MARY-ROSARY.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13092\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">October 7 is the liturgical feast of&nbsp;<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Our Lady of the Rosary<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. Pope St. Pius V (1504-1572) first introduced this feast in the year 1571 to commemorate the Christian forces&#8217; miraculous victory in the Battle of Lepanto on October 7, 1571.&nbsp;<\/span><br>\n<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Blessed Virgin Mary imparted to Saint Dominic and Blessed Alan de la Roche, Fifteen Promises to those who recite the Holy Rosary. The first being, &#8220;whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall receive signal graces,&#8221; each of these promises offers peace and hope to the faithful. Pope St. John Paul II wrote an Apostolic Letter,&nbsp;<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">T<\/span><\/em><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vatican.va\/content\/john-paul-ii\/en\/apost_letters\/2002\/documents\/hf_jp-ii_apl_20021016_rosarium-virginis-mariae.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">he Rosary of the Virgin Mary<\/span><\/em><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, in 2002, explaining the grace-filled power of this prayer. You can learn more about the Rosary, including the prayers in Spanish, French, and Portuguese on&nbsp;<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.familyrosary.org\/discovertherosary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">FamilyRosary.org<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><br>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rosary for America<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today at 3 pm, we will join Archbishop Jos\u00e9 H. Gomez, President of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, bishops, priests, and Catholics across the country in praying a virtual rosary in a moment of unified prayer for America.&nbsp; The USCCB will Livestream the event from their <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/usccb\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">YouTube page<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as well as shared on the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/fallriverdiocese\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Diocese of Fall River Facebook<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> page.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>The USCCB offered these guidelines on how to participate:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br>\n<\/span><b><\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fallriverdiocese.org\/bishops-blog-mass-for-peace-and-the-rosary\/usccbrosary-graphic1-spanish\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-13089\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fallriverdiocese.org\/app\/uploads\/2020\/10\/USCCBRosary-Graphic1-Spanish-1024x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13089\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Prior to the rosary: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">invite at least one person to join you \u2014 share on your personal social media platforms using #RosaryforAmerica or pick up your phone to extend an invitation via call, text, or email (graphics in English and Spanish are below).<\/span><br>\n<b>Leading up to the rosary:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> take a photo of a rosary and share it on social media. Be sure to use #RosaryForAmerica and let us know where you are praying from \u2014 how beautiful will it be when we flood the digital highways with images of rosaries on Our Lady\u2019s feast day!<\/span><br>\n<b>During the rosary:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> turn off social media and enter into prayer \u2014 we\u2019ll be praying the Glorious Mysteries! As Pope Pius XII said, \u201cWe put great confidence in the Holy Rosary for the healing of evils which afflict our times.\u201d<\/span><br>\n<b>After the rosary:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> turn back to social media, and using the #RosaryForAmerica hashtag, leave a prayer intention for our country and invite others to pray for that intention. Then be intentional about your use of technology and be present to those around you! One act of love flowed from the grace of prayer can change our world!<\/span><br>\n<br>\nHow good to look to the tradition of the Rosary, a constant in the Catholic faith, in the midst of our ever-changing world.
