“Who Are the Strangers We Must Welcome?”

The multi parish-sponsored Speaker Series returns this summer with the talk, “Who Are the Strangers We Must Welcome?” It will look at refugees and immigrants through the lens of Catholic Social Teaching. All are welcome to attend. Presenter will be Sister of St. Joseph Erin McDonald, who grew up in Mashpee. A social worker, she has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Wheeling Jesuit University and master’s degrees in social work and pastoral ministry from West Virginia University and Loyola University New Orleans, respectively. She currently serves as the University Minister for Service and Social Justice at the University of Detroit Mercy and she anticipates taking her final vows this fall. Previously, she’s worked as director of the Service for Social Action Center at Wheeling Jesuit University and at the Freedom House in Detroit, a shelter for survivors of torture and persecution who are seeking asylum in the U.S. Internationally, she has served the Jesuit Refugee Service in Rwanda as a humanitarian aid worker.

This Speakers Series 2019 is jointly sponsored by four parishes: Our Lady of Victory, Centerville; Our Lady of the Assumption, Osterville; St. Anthony, East Falmouth; and Christ the King, Mashpee.
