SUMMARY:All Saints Day
DESCRIPTION:The Solemnity of All Saints\, or All Saints Day\, is a celebration of all Catholic saints held on November 1 each year. All Saints Day commemorates all the blessed in heaven\, and is intended particularly to remember and honor the blessed who have no special feast. “On this solemnity\, we recall the holy men and women who\, having completed their earthly journeys\, now live forever with God. These saints\, though not canonized\, offer us models of abiding faith and love of God and neighbor” (Essential Guide to Seasons and Saints\, 109). Note:

SUMMARY:All Souls Day
DESCRIPTION:The Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed is observed each year on this date. \n\n“Eternal rest grant unto them \, O Lord\, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of all the faithful departed\, through the mercy of God\, rest in peace.” \nOSV News explains that the Commemoration of the Faithful Departed\, or All Souls’ Day\, evolved onto the church calendar long after All Saints’ Day. Sometime between 998 and 1030\, St. Odilo\, the abbot at the Benedictine monastery in Cluny\, France\, encouraged all the monks to pray for the souls of those who had died\, those awaiting the joys of heaven. He instituted this commemoration on the day after All Saints’ Day\, and soon other religious orders and churches began\, on that same date\, to annually remember all who had died. Remembering and praying for the faithful departed is tied directly to Catholic belief in purgatory. On All Souls’ Day the universal church prays for all those in purgatory.

SUMMARY:Catholic Campaign for Human Development Collection
DESCRIPTION:The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) embodies the Catholic social teaching principles of solidarity\, preferential option for the poor and vulnerable\, life and dignity of the human person\, and pursuit of the common good. Founded in 1969 by the US bishops\, CCHD is rooted in Jesus’ call to “to bring glad tidings to the poor . . . / [and] to let the oppressed go free” (Lk 4:18). \nCCHD is dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty by funding community programs that encourage independence. These grants promote human dignity through grassroots solutions to local problems\, and they provide marginalized people with the tools they need to to rise above poverty\, support their families\, and improve their communities. \nThis weekend\, parishes throughout the Diocese of Fall River and across the country will take up the Catholic Campaign for Human Development Collection.  More information about the Catholic Campaign for Human Development can be found on the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops website here. \n
