Sponsored annually by the Men of St. Joseph of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Acushnet\, the event is open to all men of the Diocese of Fall River. \nOrganizers emphasize that the Men’s Meat N’ Greet is intended not only for men who are actively involved in their parish and practicing their faith\, but also for those who are not currently living a life of faith. They anticipate that Father Peschel’s talk will encourage men “to courageously rise to the occasion of living their faith in a genuine and authentic way and to strive to be the men and saints that God created them to be” amid the challenges of contemporary culture. \nFather Peschel was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Fall River in 2014. DESCRIPTION:Do you know a young man who exhibits qualities of faith\, leadership\, and a heart for service? During Masses this weekend\, parishioners will be asked to take part once again this year in the Called by Name initiative. Called by Name invites parishioners to submit -after prayerful consideration- the names of young men in their community whom they believe would be open to learning more about the priesthood. \nSpecifically\, parishioners will be asked if they know of a young\, unmarried man “who exhibits qualities of faith\, leadership\, and a heart for service” and then to nominate the individual to the Diocesan Vocation Office as a way of encouraging what may be a priestly vocation. Candidates should be 15-30-something years old. Parishioners will be able to submit names through various ways; more information will be provided at parishes. \nHonorees receive a letter of encouragement from Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha\, S.D.V.\, followed by resources and invitations to events from the Vocation Office. \nIn a recent communication to priests in the Diocese on Called by Name\, Bishop da Cunha explained that the “Vocations Office reports tremendous fruit from this effort\, with more men in discernment groups\, attending events\, and being accompanied by our Vocation Team.” \nPlease note that even if a young man’s name has been submitted before\, he can be submitted again this year. DESCRIPTION:Members of the Fall River Diocese are invited to join Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha\, S.D.V.\, in the annual Procession and Mass for Peace on the Columbus Day holiday. Participants in the procession should meet by 5:30 p.m. in the area of St. Anne’s Shrine\, across from Kennedy Park on South Main Street in Fall River\, to march approximately one-half mile to St. Mary’s Cathedral. The procession will begin at 6 p.m. Marchers will carry candles\, recite the rosary\, and sing Marian hymns. \nUpon arrival of the procession at St. Mary’s Cathedral\, located at the corner of Second and Spring Streets\, Bishop da Cunha will celebrate the Mass for Peace. \nThose who are handicapped or disabled should proceed directly to the Cathedral\, where a special area will be designated for them.

DESCRIPTION:Established by Pope Pius XI in 1926 and celebrated every year on the second-to-last Sunday of October\, World Mission Sunday is the day when Catholics around the world unite to support the missionary work of the Church. \nThe World Mission Sunday collection grants funds to mission dioceses\, which help to underwrite the basic physical footprint that keeps missionary life going: where priests live\, where sisters live\, where children are catechized\, where formation and pastoral work can happen\, and where Holy Mass can be celebrated\, often for the first time. Part of the funds are used to help missionary dioceses run and survive\, while the rest of the funds are used to build churches\, seminaries\, convents\, and pastoral centers. SUMMARY:Mass for Mental Health Awareness
DESCRIPTION:October 10th is World Mental Health Day and October 5-11\, the first week of October\, is Mental Health Awareness Week. \nIn recognition of the impact that mental health challenges can have on individuals\, their families and caregivers\, Bishop Edgar da Cunha will offer this special Mass for those who have lost a loved one to suicide\, drug and/or alcohol use\, or mental illness. The Masses will also be offered for those who are currently experiencing mental health challenges. (A Mass was celebrated for this intention earlier in the month by the Bishop at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Fall River.) \nAll are welcome to this Mass! A Book of Remembrance will be offered during the Mass for those who have died by suicide or from Mental Health- or Substance Use-related causes.
