Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha, S.D.V., will celebrate the Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion for men and women from throughout the Fall River Diocese who are preparing to become members of the Roman Catholic Church or who are preparing for full communion in the Church. The Rite of Election takes place in diocesan cathedrals annually throughout the world on the First Sunday of Lent.
The Rite of Election includes the official enrollment of names of all those seeking Baptism at the Easter Vigil. At this Rite the catechumens publicly request Baptism and declare their desire to make a faith commitment to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in the Catholic Church. It marks the beginning of the final phase of preparation for those participating in the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults –or OCIA- the process through which adults enter the Catholic Church.
