“Rise Up, O Men of God” will be the theme of a featured presentation by Father Christopher Peschel, pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in New Bedford, at this year’s Men’s Meat N’ Greet, scheduled for Sunday, September 13, from 4 to 8 p.m. The event will take place on the grounds of St. John Neumann Parish, 157 Middleboro Rd., in East Freetown.
The Men’s Meat N’ Greet will feature a barbecue dinner, team activities, oversized yard games, opportunities for fellowship, Father Peschel’s presentation, Eucharistic Adoration and Confession. Sponsored annually by the Men of St. Joseph of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Acushnet, the event is open to all men of the Diocese of Fall River.
Organizers emphasize that the Men’s Meat N’ Greet is intended not only for men who are actively involved in their parish and practicing their faith, but also for those who are not currently living a life of faith. They anticipate that Father Peschel’s talk will encourage men “to courageously rise to the occasion of living their faith in a genuine and authentic way and to strive to be the men and saints that God created them to be” amid the challenges of contemporary culture.
Father Peschel was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Fall River in 2014. He has served as pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish for the past four years and also serves as dean of the New Bedford Deanery and a chaplain to the Massachusetts State Police.
On the grill at the Men’s Meat N’ Greet will be pulled pork, burgers, hot dogs, and 50 pounds of bacon.
