SUMMARY:Solemnity of Mary\, Mother of God
DESCRIPTION:The Solemnity of Mary\, Mother of God is a liturgical feast day honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary’s motherhood in the wake of the birth of the baby Jesus Christ. The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains the basis for this title for Mary. “Called in the Gospels ‘the mother of Jesus\,’ Mary is acclaimed by Elizabeth\, at the prompting of the Spirit and even before the birth of her Son\, as ‘the mother of my Lord.’ This is also the Octave of Christmas\, or the 8th day of Christmas. This is a holy day of obligation. Please check your parish bulletin or website for the schedule of Masses.

DESCRIPTION:The Catholic Youth Organization (CYO)\, along with the Knights of Columbus\, the Diocesan Office of Vocations\, and the Secretariat for the New Evangelization (which oversees CYO)\, will be holding a Basketball Jamboree at Bishop Connolly High School Gymnasium in Fall River. The evening will include the Knights of Columbus free throw contest\, music by Vatican III\, and a God’s Squad Team of Priests and Religious Sisters vs. CYO All Stars Basketball Game! \nHere’s the line: the free throw contest\, music\, and more from 5:30 to 7 p.m.; and the basketball game from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. \nAll are invited to support the youth in the diocesan CYO and our priests!

DESCRIPTION:The Secretariat for the New Evangelization is hosting this evening first to serve as a thank you to all the “co-workers in the vineyard” as a Jubilee Year begins\, and it will honor those marking significant years of work to the Church (including first year). Additionally\, the evening will offer development for parish leaders in the areas of parish ministry\, evangelization and catechesis. In particular\, parish and catechetical leaders will receive updated information on the Vatican Directory and from the USCCB on evangelizing catechesis. Guest presenter will be John Roberto\, who is President of the National Conference of Catechetical Leaders and co-author of Guided by the Directory for Catechesis (2024). \nParticipants must register to attend; registration is through one’s parish. Registration deadline is Friday\, January 17th.
