SUMMARY:All Saints Day
DESCRIPTION:The Solemnity of All Saints\, or All Saints Day\, is a celebration of all Catholic saints held on November 1 each year. All Saints Day commemorates all the blessed in heaven\, and is intended particularly to remember and honor the blessed who have no special feast. “On this solemnity\, we recall the holy men and women who\, having completed their earthly journeys\, now live forever with God. These saints\, though not canonized\, offer us models of abiding faith and love of God and neighbor” (Essential Guide to Seasons and Saints\, 109). Note: All Saints Day is not a holy day of obligation this year as it falls on a Saturday and the obligation is suspended.

SUMMARY:Called by Name Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Do you know a young man who exhibits qualities of faith\, leadership\, and a heart for service? During Masses this weekend\, parishioners will be asked to take part once again this year in the Called by Name initiative. Called by Name invites parishioners to submit -after prayerful consideration- the names of young men in their community whom they believe would be open to learning more about the priesthood. \nSpecifically\, parishioners will be asked if they know of a young\, unmarried man “who exhibits qualities of faith\, leadership\, and a heart for service” and then to nominate the individual to the Diocesan Vocation Office as a way of encouraging what may be a priestly vocation. Candidates should be 15-35 years old. Parishioners will be able to submit names through various ways; more information will be provided at parishes. \nHonorees receive a letter of encouragement from Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha\, S.D.V.\, followed by resources and invitations to events from the Vocation Office. \nIn a recent communication to priests in the Diocese on Called by Name\, Bishop da Cunha explained that last year 164 young men were recognized through the initiative and that the Vocations Office reports more men in discernment groups\, attending events\, and in ongoing communication with Vocation Teams. \nVisit the Fall River Vocations website to learn more and to submit a name online. \nWatch this video introduction to Called by Name featuring Father Jack Schrader and Father John Garabedian from the Diocesan Vocations Office!

SUMMARY:Parish Retreat: "Finding God in Suffering"
DESCRIPTION:The Mount Hope Catholic Community invites all to its parish retreat\, looking at “Finding God in Suffering.” Presenter will be Father Christopher M. Mahar of the Diocese of Providence and author of the book\, Finding God in Suffering. \nDo you sometimes struggle to find an answer to the question of suffering in your life or in the life of your loved ones? Planners of this retreat offer that through this day of prayer\, reflection and listening\, you may come closer to an answer than you have ever expected. Father Maher writes: “God will stop at nothing to communicate his redemptive and healing love to those who suffer….What the teachings of our faith propose; and what the witness and writings of Saint John Paul II articulate\, is not merely that there is a meaning in human suffering. More than that\, they communicate the profound and mysterious truth that\, even in suffering\, we can find love. They present nothing less than this astounding paradox: “in the cross of Jesus Christ\, love has found us.”  \nRegistration to attend the retreat is $25.00 (October 1 – October 31) and includes morning coffee/tea\, lunch and copy of Father Mahar’s book. \nTo register\, please contact Sister Marianne Postiglione\, RSM\, by email to postigm@gmail.com or telephone 314-537-3058. \n\n\nLearn more about Father Mahar here.

SUMMARY:Catholic Campaign for Human Development Collection
DESCRIPTION:The Catholic Campaign for Human Development is the national anti-poverty program of the U.S. Catholic Bishops\, working to carry out the mission of Jesus Christ “… to bring glad tidings to the poor …  liberty to captives …  sight to the blind\, and let the oppressed go free.” (Luke 4:18) \nThe belief that those who are directly affected by unjust systems and structures have the best insight into knowing how to change them is central to CCHD. CCHD works to break the cycle of poverty by helping low-income people participate in decisions that affect their lives\, families and communities. CCHD offers a hand up\, not a hand out. \nThis weekend\, parishes throughout the Diocese and across the country will take up the Catholic Campaign for Human Development Collection.  More information about the Catholic Campaign for Human Development can be found on the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops website here.
