Decree Issued for Suppression of St. Mary Parish in Taunton Author: Diocese of Fall River Press Releases and Statements 20 Ago 2025 Share FALL RIVER — Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha, S.D.V., has issued a decree, effective September 15, that St. Mary Parish in Taunton, currently part of a three-parish collaborative, be suppressed. The issuance follows the letter sent to parishioners of the collaborative last month from the Bishop and members of the collaborative’s Unification Team explaining the difficult decision that St. Mary’s Parish would need to officially close. St. Mary’s Church has been closed and unused since November 2023 because of needed repairs and safety concerns. The Decree states that the pastoral and spiritual care of the parishioners of St. Mary’s will be provided by the priests assigned to the other parishes in the collaborative, St. Anthony Parish and St. Jude Parish, both in Taunton.
