FALL RIVER \u2014 Earlier this month Hurricane Matthew devastated significant parts of the Southeast coast of the United States and some countries in the Caribbean, especially Haiti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In response, Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha, S.D.V., has approved a request from the president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops for a special collection to help the people and the Church impacted by Hurricane Matthew. This collection will be taken up at Masses during the October 29-30 weekend in parishes throughout the Fall River Diocese<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops President Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz explained that collected funds will assist church agencies with immediate relief needs as well as with the work that will be required on the long road of restoration that lies ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThese funds will be used to support the efforts of Catholic Relief Services and Catholic Charities USA as they reach out to provide humanitarian aid in the form of water, food, shelter, and medical care, as well as their long term efforts to restore communities after widespread destruction, and to the U. S.
