Reflections from Brazil

As we conclude our Christmas season, I wish to take this opportunity to reflect with all of you my joy and how this Christmas season has been a source of blessing for me. I have taken time away from my heavy schedule of duties to enjoy some rest and relaxation with my family in Brazil. The warmth of the summer weather here and the time with family is such a source of positive energy to allow me to be rejuvenated physically, emotionally and spiritually to return to my responsibilities as Bishop of our Diocese of Fall River. I am grateful for this opportunity that I have to reconnect with my family, especially to spend time with my brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews and with my great-nieces and great-nephews.

We all need some time away from duty and responsibilities, a change of environment and a change of pace to be recharged for the year ahead. I’m grateful that the Lord affords me this opportunity to spend time with my family, to laugh together, to share memories, to reconnect with our roots, and with nature, and to be able to be renewed to embrace the mission that awaits me in the coming months.

2024 Mass and Walk for Life

9 Days for Life Novena
The pro-life cause still needs our prayers as some legislatures push for the passage of anti-life measures. This week, we embark on the annual 9 Days for Life Novena from January 16 to 24. I invite you to join me in prayer for the protection and sanctity of every human life, from conception to natural death. This special time of reflection offers us an opportunity to deepen our faith, raise our voices for those most vulnerable, and grow as a community of love and compassion. Together, let us pray, reflect, and act to build a culture that cherishes the dignity of all life. You can download the novena here.

R.S.V.P. for the Annual Wedding Anniversary Mass

There are many events our Diocese sponsors throughout the year that enrich my life and ministry as a Bishop. One of those events is the annual Wedding Anniversary Mass, when we gather in the Cathedral of St. Mary the Assumption to celebrate the anniversaries of so many wonderful couples whose love is a source of inspiration and hope. This year’s Mass will take place on Sunday, February 9, at the Cathedral at 3 p.m.

Couples – and their families – who would like to participate in the Mass must register through their home parish by Friday, January 17. Couples celebrating any anniversary year are welcome to attend.

Sincerely,

Bishop da Cunha
