Bishop Asks for Prayers Following Death of Yarmouth Police Officer Author: Diocese of Fall River In the News 13 Apr 2018 Share FALL RIVER — Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha, S.D.V., has issued the following statement following the fatal shooting of Police Officer Sean Gannon: “Like so many, I am stunned and deeply saddened by the tragic death yesterday of Yarmouth Police Officer Sean Gannon. I think it makes all of us pause to consider the dangers inherent in the daily work of those in law enforcement and public safety. “I ask members of the Catholic community across the Fall River Diocese to pray with me for the peaceful repose of Officer Gannon and for strength and comfort for his family in their heartbreaking loss. I extend my personal condolences to them. Officer Gannon’s mother and father, Denise and Patrick Gannon, are known to many throughout the Diocese from their longtime service as pastoral musicians. I hope that they find some solace in knowing that their many friends among our priests and lay faithful share their sorrow and embrace them in thought and prayer. “It is important also to keep in mind members of the Yarmouth Police Department who are grieving the violent loss of a colleague. They have our prayerful support at this difficult time and an assurance of our continued gratitude for their dedicated service.” Diocese of Fall River Office of Communications Categories In the News Press Releases and Statements Messages from The Bishop Bishop's Blog Success Stories Photo Gallery Videos Related Posts In the News 25 Apr 2014 Mansfield Man to Become First Lay Finance Officer and Chancellor for Diocese FALL RIVER — Paul Kawa, a Certified Public Accountant who has worked as a financial controller for the past several years, will assume the positions of Finance Officer and Chancellor … Read More In the News 26 Jun 2017 Diocese to Participate in Convocation of Catholics from Across the Country;Bishop Asks for Prayers for Fruitful Gathering The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has called for the first-time ever a Convocation to take place from July 1-4, 2017 in Orlando, Florida.
