Bishop to Gather with Religious for World Day for Consecrated Life Author: Diocese of Fall River In the News 23 Jan 2017 Share DARTMOUTH — In 1997, Pope Saint John Paul II instituted a day of prayer for women and men in consecrated life. This celebration is attached to the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord on February 2nd. This Feast is also known as Candlemas Day; the day on which candles are blessed symbolizing Christ who is the light of the world. So too, those in consecrated life are called to reflect the light of Jesus Christ to all peoples. The celebration of World Day for Consecrated Life is transferred to the following Sunday in order to highlight the gift of consecrated persons for the whole Church. In the Fall River Diocese, Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha, S.D.V., will gather with Religious Men and Women for an observance of World Day for Consecrated Life on Saturday, February 4, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at St. Julie Billiart Parish in North Dartmouth. The observance will include a speaking presentation, time for sharing and conviviality, and Mass. All are asked to pray for those who have made commitments in the consecrated life, and to thank them. In the context of Masses during the February 4/5 weekend, many parishes will include intercessions for consecrated life. For more information, please contact Sr. Paulina Hurtado, O.P., the Diocesan Episcopal Representative for Religious at 508-675-1311 or by e-mail Sr.Paulina@dioc-fr.org.
