FALL RIVER — Fall River Diocese Catholic Schools and the Foundation to Advance Catholic Education (FACE) are pleased to announce a new initiative to help low-income students enroll in a Catholic school. The Hope and Opportunity Initiative will provide 100 new low-income students with scholarships up to $2,000 to attend a Catholic elementary school in either Fall River or the Greater New Bedford area. Additional aid from schools and parishes is also available. This initiative has been made possible by a donation to FACE from the Carney Family Foundation.

Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha, S.D.V., has echoed Pope Francis’ call to make Catholic education accessible to all those who desire it. FACE and the diocesan Catholic schools are grateful to donors, like the Carney Family, for responding to this call enthusiastically. Through their generosity, FACE will give out $1.2 million in financial aid to students attending the 22 Catholic schools in the Fall River Diocese for the 2017-18 school year.

Many of these schools have open seats for the upcoming 2017-18 school year. Families interested in learning more about the Hope and Opportunity Initiative should contact Sarah Heaton at the diocesan Catholic Education Center at 508-678-2828 or by e-mail at sheaton@dfrcs.org.
