Chrism Mass 2023

FALL RIVER – The Diocese of Fall River Office of Clergy Support is again hosting a Diocesan-wide Nine-Day Novena for Priests on the nine days leading up to the Chrism Mass.

The Chrism Mass is the annual gathering of priests from the Diocese of Fall River with Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha, S.D.V., during which the priests renew their priestly promises. The Chrism Mass is celebrated on the Tuesday of Holy Week, which this year is March 26, 2024. It will take place in St. Mary’s Cathedral in Fall River.

As a way to prayerfully support our priests as they prepare to renew their promises, the Office of Clergy Support invites the faithful of the Diocese to pray this Chrism Mass Novena. It will start on Monday, March 18, and continue each successive day leading up to the Chrism Mass on Tuesday, March 26.

To register to participate in the Chrism Mass Novena for Priests, kindly register / subscribe for Clergy Support updates at the bottom of the following page https://www.fallriverdiocese.org/clergy-offices/clergy-get-involved/ or contact Matt Robinson, Director of Clergy Support, at mrobinson@dioc-fr.org or 508-492-0995.

Thank you for supporting our Priests!

More on the Chrism Mass
During the Mass, Bishop Cunha will bless the oils that are used in the sacramental life of the Diocese throughout the year: Oil of Catechumens, Oil of the Sick, and Chrism. The Mass takes its name from the last of these oils, the Sacred Chrism, the most eminent of the three. All are welcome to attend the Chrism Mass, which begins at 4 p.m.
