EAST FREETOWN – Kevin Wells, a former sports reporter turned evangelist and bestselling author, will speak at the second annual Men’s Meat ‘n Greet to take place Saturday, May 4, at Cathedral Camp in East Freetown, from 5 to 8 p.m. The gathering will feature a barbeque, team events and yard games, opportunities for fellowship, and the presentation by Wells.

The event is being sponsored jointly by the Fall River Diocesan Secretariat for the New Evangelization and the Men of St. Joseph apostolate of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Acushnet. All men of the Diocese of Fall River are welcome to attend.

Planners say this Men’s Meat ‘n Greet is not only for men who are already plugged into their parish and practicing their faith, but also for men who do not yet know the Lord or who are not currently living a life of faith.

Wells is a Catholic writer, speaker, and former sports reporter with the Tampa Tribune, where he covered major-league baseball. He is the author of the bestselling books “The Priests We Need to Save the Church” and “Priest and Beggar: The Heroic Life of Venerable Aloysius Schwartz.” He serves as president of the Monsignor Thomas Wells Society for Vocations, which is committed to the promotion of strong priests, seminarians, and living the fullness of the Catholic faith. A father of three, he resides in Maryland with his wife and family.

On the grill at the Men’s Meat ‘n Greet will be pulled pork, burgers, hot dogs, and bacon -and planners say, a lot of it-, while a variety of games such as giant cornhole and slingshot and a tractor pull will be in play on the grounds.

The cost is $15. and registration is required. Interested men may sign up online here or by using the QR code on the event flyers available in the back of many parish churches.
