Meditations in Stone: Michaelangelo’s Piéta

Dr. Esperanca Camara, a professor of Art History at the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana, will lead this presentation on the Piéta. Housed in St. Peter's in Rome, the Piéta is on of the most famous works of art ever made and marked the beginning of Michelangelo's lifelong meditation on Christ's death and the Blessed Mother's suffering. This presentation will examine his deeply personal and theologically-rich reflections on this theme. Dr. Camara's specialty is Catholic devotional art.

Our Lady of the Cape Parish invites all to this final installment in its Summer Speaker Series. Sister of St. Joseph Kathleen Hagerty will discuss "The Spirituality of Aging." She has served as an elementary and high school teacher and hospital chaplain and is currently conducting aging and spirituality programs and retreats. Prior to her talk, a light meal will be served in the parish center for a cost of $6.00.
