Eighth-grade students from Catholic schools throughout the Fall River Diocese will together visit the historic mother church of the Fall River Diocese, the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption, where Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha, S.D.V., will celebrate the 12:05 p.m. Mass for them.

The 18th annual Cathedral Carol Sings offers familiar carols for all to sing; organ solos by J.S. Bach, Balbastre, and Walcha; and choral selections performed by the Holy Cross Chapel Choir, the Cathedral Hispanic Choir, and the Cathedral Choir. All are welcome to enjoy music of the season on the Sunday after Christmas. A free will offering will be taken up to benefit the St. Mary's Cathedral Organ Fund.

"Living Mercy" is the theme of this four-part Lenten Mission to be offered in the context of the 12:05 p.m. daily Mass. Father Thomas Washburn, a Franciscan Friar of the Immaculate Conception Province, will preach the Mission. A New Bedford native ordained to the priesthood in 2000, Father Washburn is currently the Executive Secretary of the English-Speaking Conference of Franciscan Provincial Ministers. Presentation of the Pope St. Pius X Youth Awards to young persons from parishes throughout the Diocese in recognition of their service to their parish. Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha, S.D.V., will confer the awards in the context of a prayer service. Named for the pontiff who created the Fall River Diocese in 1904, the Pope St. Pius X Youth Awards were  presented for the first time in 2001. Recipients are nominated for the honor by their pastor.

Ecumenical Worship Service Observing the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation

This year, 2017, marks the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. Catholics and Protestants are invited to join together for this Ecumenical Prayer Service to remember the beginnings of their divisions and to celebrate their progress along a path of reconciliation. Service of Shadows: a special prayer service called Tenebrae, which has its roots in monastic tradition, is held each year on the Wednesday evening of Holy Week at St. Mary's Cathedral in Fall River. Members of the Fall River Diocese are invited to join Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha, S.D.V., in this annual Procession and Mass for Peace on the Columbus Day holiday.
